FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Here are some of the most common questions we get about booking, deposits, healing, walk-ins, privacy, and preparing for your tattoo.
In our menu bar, you will find a few Appointment Form options. Ashley, Lilly, Carlos, Angel & ArJay mainly work by appointment only, and have specific forms in order to acquire some specific information, and also to share specific information about their booking process. Kyle, Jay & Eli take appointments through the general Appointment Form and also accept walk-ins when possible. We take a $100-200 non refundable deposit (depending on appointment time duration) which will come off the price of your tattoo.
Yes, but it is bearable. Tattoos are very aggravating, and coming in feeling good and hydrated will definitely help your body to handle the pain. A good comparison would be getting drawn on with a heavy, slow toothpick, over sunburnt skin. Your endorphins will soon kick in and help you to deal with this. The best way to deal with the pain is to focus on keeping your body calm and relaxed.
Aside from pieced together traditional style tattoos, we strongly recommend coming in and talking to us before getting started. A large tattoo which has been well thought out and planned will always look better than one which has been added onto as an afterthought. These tattoos will always take multiple sessions, but choosing one artist to come up with a cohesive plan, which will allow them to pursue the best outcome, will result in a beautiful work of art.
Comfortable clothing should be your first choice. Remember that your clothing will need to be removed from the area where we are applying the tattoo. If you are getting a tattoo on your back, bringing in a hoodie or button up shirt which you can wear backward would be a great decision. If you are getting a tattoo on or near your hip area, bathing suit bottoms might be the best choice. For a tattoo on your ribs, a thin t-shirt works best because we can roll it up and it will not be bulky and get in the way. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or for suggestions about your specific tattoo.
While we welcome you to bring a support person to your appointment, we do require them to remain in the lobby during your tattoo process. We have very limited space in our tattoo service area.
We understand that getting tattooed requires you to be in a vulnerable state, and we are happy to work with you in order to provide you with as much comfort as we can. Only Forever Tattoo has five foot walls between each tattoo station which helps to give privacy to each client. We also have modular partitions to provide more visual barriers to your station.
Itching is a normal part of the healing process, especially during the stage where your new skin is growing and healing over the initial abrasion. A good quality unscented lotion will help quite a bit. Just do not scratch it, as this will negatively affect the healing process.
We require a deposit to hold your spot for a number of reasons. When we add you into our schedule, we are reserving that time for you and not accepting other appointments during that time. A deposit shows us that you are serious about coming in for your tattoo, and also helps to reimburse us in the event that you cancel last minute or do not show up for your appointment. Tattooers do not receive hourly pay, so if we have a no-show, we also have no income. Your deposit will provide us with a fraction of what we would have made, had you come in for your appointment. In addition, we prepare for your tattoo in advance. There are often hours of behind-the-scenes work put into creating a design for you. Your deposit goes toward this work as well as your tattoo.
If you know that you would like to get tattooed, we always recommend making an appointment. This way, you know when you are getting tattooed and you can come in well rested, well hydrated and feeling good. This also gives your artist time to prepare something unique to you. We do accept walk-ins for tattoos which are easy to design and don't require a great amount of preparation time. These tattoos are typically baseball size or smaller. We take walk-ins based on availability, and can never tell you with certainty whether or not we have time, until you are physically inside our shop. If you are trying to get a walk-in tattoo, the best thing you can do for yourself is head to your tattoo shop of choice, and walk-in.
If you are more than 15 minutes late to your appointment, we will probably need to reschedule you and will require a new deposit. Just as we hold time for you, which we wouldn't give to someone else, we cannot give someone else's time to you.
Something to keep in mind when shopping for tattoos is that you typically get what you pay for. A talented artist is not going to charge the same prices as someone who does not have as much skill or experience to offer. Price shopping can often result in a less than satisfactory outcome, and will ultimately cost you much more time and money to fix, than you would have paid for a quality tattoo in the first place. Save your money until you can pay for the tattoo you actually want, from your first choice artist. Most tattoos that result in laser removal or cover-ups are tattoos which were gotten on impulse or in price shopping situations.
As per health department regulation, food is not permitted in the tattoo service area at all. Drinks are permitted, but limited to containers with resealable lids or straws. We encourage resealable lids over straws because we love our planet. If you feel like you may need some sugar during your procedure, especially if you are diabetic, feel free to bring candy.
Your first step is to look at portfolios. Instagram is a great platform for browsing local artists and exploring their creative and technical abilities. Remember that tattoos are handmade and will always show the artistic style of the tattooer creating them. Choose an artist who creates a lot of work which you enjoy. Your next step is to visit that tattoo shop. Stop by and feel out the vibe, look through portfolios and assess their professionalism. Is the tattoo shop clean and presentable? Are they respectful toward you? Do you feel comfortable there? You may also want to set up a consultation with your artist of choice, to have the opportunity to speak with them face to face and see what your gut tells you about working with this person.
