ONLY FOREVER TATTOO

Tattoo Aftercare & Health Guidelines

Caring for your tattoo is important for the healing and integrity of your tattoo. It is also necessary in order to avoid infection resulting from outside elements. Efforts should be made in order to ensure a clean environment for your healing tattoo. Your new tattoo remains susceptible to infection until it is through the healing process. While we follow all health department guidelines and maintain the highest standards of cleanliness inside Only Forever Tattoo, we are unable to protect your tattoo from infection once you leave our shop, and this is your responsibility.

CLASSIC TATTOOS

Tattoo Care

Leave bandage on for at least 4 hours, but no longer than the next morning.

Remove bandage and wash tattoo with mild soap in warm water. Massage soapy water gently with your clean hand. No washcloth.

Let air dry or pat dry with a clean towel. Do not rub. Make sure your tattoo is fully dry.

Apply a thin layer of ointment onto tattoo with clean fingertips. We recommend using Aquaphor Healing Ointment from Eucerin. Rub completely into your skin. Tattoo must be able to breathe.

Repeat twice a day for 3–4 days.

After 3–4 days, follow the same steps as above, but switch to unscented lotion instead of ointment.

HEALING TIPS

Tips

Do not submerge or soak tattoo in water. No baths, hot tubs, pools, or ocean for at least two weeks.

Do not overexpose tattoo to direct sunlight, including tanning beds.

Limit workouts to other areas of the body for at least a week.

Sleep with fresh, clean linens and wear clean clothes.

Do not rub, scratch, or pick at your tattoo while healing.

If you have any questions, please give us a call.

If you need to wear skin-tight clothing over your fresh tattoo, clean the tattoo well, let it air dry for 15–20 minutes, and then cover with Saran Wrap. This will keep scabs from bonding your tattoo to your clothing.

CLEAR ADHESIVE BANDAGES

Saniderm, Tegaderm, Landerm, and similar products

If you and your tattooer choose to use an adhesive bandage such as Saniderm, Tegaderm, Landerm, or a similar product, please follow these guidelines carefully.

Please note that these products use adhesive, and will trigger an allergic reaction in individuals with an allergy to adhesives.

If you begin to feel irritation where the bandage is adhered to your skin, please remove it. Doing so in a warm shower will help loosen any strong adhesive.

Always get the name of the product being used and follow that company’s guidelines of use.

Never leave a leaking adhesive bandage on. If plasma, pigment, or liquid of any type escapes from your bandage, it has created a path for germs and bacteria to enter, creating a breeding ground for infection. These bandages are only safe while they are 100% sealed to your skin.

Questions about healing?

If something feels off during healing or you have questions about how your tattoo is recovering, contact the shop directly instead of guessing. It is always better to ask early than to let a problem get worse.
